UPTET 2026 – Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test Full Details

Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has officially released the notification for Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026 vide Advertisement No. 01/UPTET/2026. This examination is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates aspiring to become teachers in primary (Class 1 to 5) and upper primary (Class 6 to 8) schools across Uttar Pradesh. All eligible candidates who wish to pursue a career in teaching in UP government schools must qualify UPTET as per NCTE guidelines.

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), formerly known as UP Basic Education Board (UPBEB), is the official body responsible for conducting the UP Teacher Eligibility Test. UPTET is a mandatory qualification for anyone seeking appointment as a teacher in Classes 1 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh. The certificate obtained after qualifying UPTET is valid for lifetime as per the latest Supreme Court ruling and NCTE norms.

Educational Qualification – UPTET 2026

Paper-I: Primary Teacher (Class 1 to 5)

Candidates must fulfill any one of the following criteria:

  • Senior Secondary (Intermediate/12th) with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed / BTC)
  • Senior Secondary (Intermediate/12th) with at least 45% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) as per NCTE 2002 norms
  • Senior Secondary (Intermediate/12th) with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
  • Senior Secondary (Intermediate/12th) with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • Graduation with B.Ed degree (as per NCTE guidelines)

Paper-II: Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6 to 8)

Candidates must fulfill any one of the following criteria:

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of B.Ed from NCTE recognized institution
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of B.Ed as per NCTE regulations 2002
  • Senior Secondary (Intermediate/12th) with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks AND passed or appearing in final year of 1-year B.Ed (Special Education)
  • Master Degree with at least 55% marks AND passed or appearing in 3-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed program

Selection Process

  1. UPTET Written Examination – Qualifying paper (Paper-I and/or Paper-II)
  2. Super TET Examination – After qualifying UPTET, candidates need to appear in Super TET conducted by UPESSC for actual teacher recruitment
  3. Document Verification – Final verification of original certificates
  4. Counselling & Appointment – Based on Super TET merit list

UPTET Certificate Validity

As per the Supreme Court of India order and NCTE notification, the UPTET certificate is now valid for lifetime (earlier it was valid for 7 years). This means once you qualify UPTET, you can use the certificate for all future teacher recruitment processes in Uttar Pradesh without any expiry concern.

Salary After Selection (Through Super TET)

  • Primary Teacher (PRT): Pay Level-2 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400) + DA + HRA + other allowances. Approximate in-hand salary: ₹38,000 – ₹45,000 per month initially
  • Upper Primary Teacher (TGT): Pay Level-5 (₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400) + DA + HRA + other allowances. Approximate in-hand salary: ₹47,000 – ₹55,000 per month initially

How to Apply for UPTET 2026

  1. Visit the official UPESSC portal at uptet.upessc.org
  2. Click on "UPTET 2026 Apply Online" link
  3. First complete OTR (One Time Registration) if not done already
  4. Login with your OTR credentials
  5. Fill in personal details, educational qualifications, and select Paper (I / II / Both)
  6. Upload passport size photograph (JPG, 20-50 KB) and signature (JPG, 10-20 KB)
  7. Pay the application fee through Debit Card / Credit Card / Net Banking / UPI
  8. Review the complete application form carefully
  9. Submit the form and take a printout for future reference
  10. Use Form Correction window (till 01 May 2026) to make any changes if needed

Important Instructions for Candidates

  • Candidates can apply for Paper-I only, Paper-II only, or Both Papers
  • There is no negative marking in UPTET examination
  • UPTET qualifying does NOT guarantee teaching job – it is only an eligibility certificate
  • For actual recruitment, candidates must appear in Super TET conducted separately
